US markets closed higher on Monday as investors focused on Tuesday's midterm elections that will determine control of Congress, while shares of Meta Platforms jumped on a report of job cuts at the Facebook parent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 1.33%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.95% and 0.95% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.48%), the Dax 30 (+0.55%), CAC 40 (+0.00%) and the STOXX (+0.55%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+1.21%), HSI (+2.69%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.23%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.218%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.724%. Oil was up to $91.87 per barrel, down 0.80%. The gold price was at US$1679.30 per ounce, up 0.16%.
