The US market closed higher on Tuesday, lifted by speculation about a potential de-escalation in the Middle East conflict that has sent oil prices soaring and fueled fears of global inflation in recent weeks.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.73%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 1.67% and  2.15% respectively.

Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.05%), the Dax 30 (-1.38%), CAC 40 (-0.87%) and the STOXX (-1.08%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.43%), HSI (+0.38%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.63%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.317%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.793%. Oil was up to $104.49 per barrel, up 4.87%. The gold price was at US$4541.37 per ounce, up 0.38%.
