Directories business Yellow is heavily promoting the launch of online sites for 205 communities across the Auckland region.

Yellow digital director Peter Crowe today said users could visit the YellowLocal.co.nz site to find and share community information, notices, events and reviews, as well as search for local businesses.

The launch of YellowLocal would include promotion through television, press, billboards, radio and online.

Yellow had gone into the community to talk to people about what was happening in their suburb.

"People wanted to be able to communicate with others in their local suburb and share information in a timely way - from everything to recommending a local restaurant, to trying to find a lost pet," marketing director Kellie Nathan said.

NZ Post is developing a new business called Localist which includes a website. Along with business advertising, it will have local news and information, events, attractions, deals and offers.

Crowe said he did not know whether YellowLocal and Localist would be similar.
