Contact Energy managing director David Baldwin will be replaced in three months by the head of energy risk management at its parent company, Origin Energy.
Baldwin was seconded to Contact Energy and has headed the company four-and-a-half years. He will "transition out" over the next three months to take up the position of chief development officer at Origin.
He will remain as a director and continue to oversee Contact's geothermal development programme, Contact chairman Grant King said.
Baldwin's successor, Dennis Barnes, has been with Origin since 1998 and has managed Origin's wholesale market activities.
Shares in Contact closed up 4c at $6.23.
