US markets closed higher on Monday with a volatile trading session while US Treasury yields breached 3% mark as investors braced for a widely anticipated Federal Reserve interest rate hike. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.26%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.57% and 1.63% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.47%), the Dax 30 (-1.13%), CAC 40 (-1.66%) and the STOXX (-1.85%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.11%), HSI (+4.01%) and the Shanghai Composite (+2.41%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 2.977%, while the 2 - year note was at 2.731%. Oil was up to $107.5 per barrel, up 0.32%. The gold price was at US$1862.9 per ounce, down 1.84%.
