Name suppression for the last two people accused of committing a $1.7 billion fraud though failed lender South Canterbury Finance lapsed today.

The Timaru Herald reported name suppression for lawyer Ed Sullivan and retired accountant Bob White ended today. Former chief executive Lachie McLeod, former chief financial officer Graeme Brown, and Timaru accountant Terry Hutton had previously applied to have suppression dropped.

The five were due to appear in the Timaru District Court today, but the registrar received applications to remand then until May 28 for a post-committal conference, the newspaper reported.

The five face 21 charges relating to fraud worth $1.7 billion, including some $1.58 billion from the lender entering the government’s retail deposit guarantee scheme.

The Serious Fraud Office filed the charges in early December after a 14-month investigation.
