UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne regained his ministerial job overseeing the Inland Revenue Department, marking the third straight parliamentary term he has accepted the role in return for supporting the government of the day.

Dunne’s reappointment was announced by Prime Minister John Key, who today signed confidence and supply agreements with both UnitedFuture and the ACT Party.

Dunne was revenue minister in the 2005-2008 Labour led coalition and managed to retain the post by switching his allegiance to National in 2008. As well as revenue, he will be an associate minister of health and conservation. All the posts are outside the cabinet.

Under the agreement, National will support UnitedFuture’s policy objectives, including the creation of the Game Animal Council as a statutory body, reinstatement of his Income Sharing Bill and helping pharmaceutical companies gain access to the public health system.

He also gets guaranteed access to other ministers, regular meetings with Key and advance notice of any major public announcements.

In return, Dunne has agreed to support the government’s legislative programme for the next three years.
