A 40-year-old man has been charged in relation to the car crash that killed Timaru businessman Allan Hubbard last year.
Oamaru Police today charged the South Otago man with careless driving causing death and careless driving causing injury to Jean Hubbard. He’s due to appear in the Dunedin District Court this Friday.
Allan Hubbard was killed on Sept. 2 when a car driven by his wife, Jean, was involved in head-on collision with a four wheel drive on State Highway One just north of Oamaru. The driver of the other car was also injured.
At the time of his death, Hubbard’s Aorangi Securities was being investigated by the Serious Fraud Office after it was placed in statutory management in June 2010, owing investors about $100 million. The SFO laid 50 charges against Hubbard under the Crimes Act, and these were shortly dropped after his death.
