The Board has appointed Mark Cairns to the Board of Freightways, effective on 1 April 2021. Mr Cairns will also stand for election at the Annual Shareholders Meeting currently scheduled to be held on 28 October 2021.
In accordance with Rule 2.6.1 of the NZX Listing Rules, the Board has determined that Mr Cairns is an independent director.
Mr Cairns brings highly relevant experience to the FRE Board. Mr Cairns has been Chief Executive of Port of Tauranga, New Zealand’s largest and most successful port, since 2005. He will retire in June to pursue a full-time governance career. Mr Cairns was previously Chief Executive of Toll Owens Limited and Owens Cargo Company Limited. He has extensive experience in logistics, infrastructure, contracting and significant exposure to capital markets.
He has a First Class Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, a degree in Business Studies and a Master of Management. Mr Cairns is also a director of Meridian Energy Limited, Northport Limited, Quality Marshalling Limited, and Coda Group Limited. He is a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand and a Member of the Institute of Directors. In 2019, Mr Cairns received the prestigious Caldwell Partners Leadership Award from the Institute of Finance Professionals and the Deloitte/Management Magazine Executive of the Year Award in 2012.
