Morgan and two others join Fairfax board

Fairfax Media has appointed three new directors to the board including Trade Me founder Sam Morgan.

Morgan is the founder and former chief executive of New Zealand's largest online transaction site TradeMe, which was purchased by Fairfax Media in 2006. He is chairman of software company Visfleet, a director of Tourism New Zealand and a director of online businesses Xero and Sonar6.

Also appointed to the board are Sandra McPhee and Linda Nicholls.

Sydney-based McPhee is a director of AGL Energy, Kathmandu, Tourism Australia, St Vincent's and Mater Health Sydney, The Art Gallery of New South Wales and a member of the advisory boards of JP Morgan and MMC.

Her previous directorships include Australia Post, Coles Group Limited and Perpetual. Prior to becoming a professional director McPhee had an extensive career in the aviation industry holding senior executive positions in sales and marketing, most recently with Qantas.

Nicholls is a corporate advisor and director of a number of leading Australian companies and organisations. She is the chairman of Healthscope, a director of Sigma Pharmaceutical Group, Insurance Manufacturers Australia and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Biomedical Science.

She is also on the board of the Harvard Business School Alumni. She is a former chairman of Australia Post and a director of St George Bank . Prior to becoming a professional director Nicholls held senior executive positions in the banking and finance industry. Fairfax expects to announce the appointment of a further, new director in the coming months.
