Sky confirms security of supply over satellite

Thursday 24th August 2023

Text too small?

Sky and Optus have agreed a variation to the Optus agreement that provides Sky with security of supply over satellite capacity through to the end of the current term in November 2031 and

mitigates against further delays or a failure of the new software-defined satellite.

Commercial terms have been agreed that, while confidential, provide financial support for Sky to undertake the necessary investment required to ensure a seamless transition across various satellites.

The new software-defined satellite was originally expected to be ready for service in late 2023 with delivery by the satellite’s manufacturers delayed due to various factors (including Covid and

manufacturing and supply chain issues) extending the planned ready for service date of the satellite until late 2025.
