ANZ National Bank said Don Brash has resigned from its board, effective from April 30.
Brash was appointed a director of the largest bank in New Zealand in 2007. He was expected to give up directorships after becoming leader of the ACT Party.
"Don joined the board in 2007 and since that time has made a significant contribution which has been appreciated. We wish him well in his future endeavours," said chairman Sir Dryden Spring.
