ComCom looks in-house for new CEO

The Commerce Commission has appointed Brent Alderton as its new chief executive effective from January 1, 2011.  

Alderton is currently the commission's general manager of regulation and has led work on developing the Part 4 (Commerce Act) regime, which covers regulation of suppliers of electricity lines, gas pipeline and airport services.

He also worked on telecommunications issues. Prior to joining the competition watchdog he was commercial manager at New Zealand Oil & Gas.  

Outgoing CEO Nick Hill, who'd previously headed up Sport & Recreation New Zealand, is leaving to join Auckland consultancy MartinJenkins.
