The US market closed higher on Monday, led higher by AI-related stocks, with Meta Platforms climbing after a report that it is preparing for sweeping layoffs, while oil prices retreated amid ongoing uncertainty about the Middle East conflict.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.83%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 1.05% and up 1.22% respectively.
Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.55%), the Dax 30 (+0.50%), CAC 40 (+0.31%) and the STOXX (+0.39%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.13%), HSI (+1.45%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.26%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.222%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.675%. Oil was up to $92.38 per barrel, down 4.61%. The gold price was at US$5021.14 per ounce, down 0.80%.
