16th June 2022 Morning Report

US markets closed higher on Wednesday after a policy announcement by the Federal Reserve that raised interest rates to market expectations as they seek to fight rising inflation without triggering a recession. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 1.00%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 1.46% and 2.50% respectively. 

Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+1.20%), the Dax 30 (+1.36%), CAC 40 (+1.35%) and the STOXX (+1.64%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-1.14%), HSI (+1.14%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.50%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.291%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.21%. Oil was up to $118.9 per barrel, down 1.86%. The gold price was at US$1834.05 per ounce, up 0.66%.
