Wellington Drive Technologies (NZSE: WDT) says it's in the first stages of licensing negotiations with several European companies after exhibiting its technology at a trade fair in Germany.

The Auckland-based company, which makes brushless electric motors, says its products were well-received at the exhibition and several sampling programmes have been requested.

"Our team is presently quoting for the product conversion work involved in these programmes," says MD Ross Green.

"As expected, the RF66 low-noise motor was the focus of most customer interest, although the larger RF200 unit also attracted considerable attention."

Mr Green says there was also higher than expected demand for small motors with good energy efficiency.

"We didn't expect that demand for energy-efficient small motors - with ratings of 10W to 20W - would be so high. But the costs of energy in Europe, and recent power shutdowns in the US, are clearly focusing designers' attention on this point."

Mr Green says that demand should help the company's marketing efforts.

Wellington Drive is this year concentrating on getting runs on the board in terms of sales and has considerably beefed up its marketing effort in the past six months. The exposure at the European fair is part of the marketing focus.

WDT listed on the main board last month after five years on the unlisted market. It is targeting its low noise, energy-efficient electric fan motors for use primarily in air conditioning units and home appliances.
