August 15th Morning Report

US markets closed higher on Monday as shares of chipmaker Nvidia jumped following a bullish note from Morgan Stanley, leading other megacap growth stocks higher as investors awaited earning reports from US retailers. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.30%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.11% and up 0.68% respectively. 

Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.23%), the Dax 30 (+0.46%), CAC 40 (+0.12%) and the STOXX (+0.21%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-1.27%), HSI (-1.58%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.34%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.201%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.973%. Oil was up to $82.49 per barrel, down 0.84%. The gold price was at US$1939.40 per ounce, down 0.37%.
