US markets closed higher on Monday and the dollar was anchored at five-week lows on expectations of a possible slow down in US monetary tightening. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 1.76%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 2.47% and 3.33% respectively.
Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.19%), the Dax 30 (+0.79%), CAC 40 (+0.72%) and the STOXX (+0.86%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+2.19%), HSI (+2.06%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.60%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 2.743%, while the 2 - year note was at 2.484%. Oil was up to $121.7 per barrel, up 1.88%. The gold price was at US$1856.5 per ounce, up 0.36%.
