Listed beverage company, Frucor, says early sales figure indicate its "V" energy drink has a realistic opportunity of grabbing the number two brand in the UK within the next 12 months.

Frucor has just released market information on its "V" product, which was launched in the UK in May.

MD Mark Cowsill says early figures from some supermarkets and convenience stores show the drink is 10% ahead of company projections.

"Although these are indicative figures and only represent sales to some of our customers, they provide a positive indication of the company's future performance in this market" he says.

He says the figures demonstrate a very good week on week growth trend for "V" and show that the brand is already driving growth in the total UK energy drinks market.

Frucor says in one retail chain the brand has already become the second-best selling energy drink.

The energy drinks market in Britain is estimated to be worth $1 billion, and is currently dominated by the Austrian-produced Red Bull brand.
