The US market closed nearly flat on Friday in a choppy session ahead of long weekend, and all three major indexes posted losses for the week as fourth-quarter earnings season kicked off.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.17%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.06% and 0.06% respectively.
Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.04%), the Dax 30 (-0.22%), CAC 40 (-0.65%) and the STOXX (-0.19%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.32%), HSI (-0.29%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.26%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.227%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.594%. Oil was up to $59.34 per barrel, up 0.42%. The gold price was at US$4595.40 per ounce, down 0.61%.
