Spark New Zealand's head of digital Tim Miles and ventures unit boss Rod Snodgrass will leave the country's biggest telecommunications company at the end of the year in an overhaul of its executive structure.

Miles will be replaced by chief financial officer Jolie Hudson toward the end of 2016, while her position will go to an external candidate, the company said in a statement. Snodgrass will also leave near year-end and Spark expects to replace him with an internal appointment. Mile will remain non-executive chair of Spark subsidiaries CCL and Revera.

Other changes in the executive line-up see chief operating officer of the connect unit, David Havercroft, appointed chief transformation officer in a temporary role which will look at business simplification, infrastructure and technology opportunities, and new revenue. Claire Barber will take on the role of chief digital officer of Spark's platforms business, and Mark Beder will lead the new Spark connect business.

"Leadership succession is something many companies grapple with," said chief executive Simon Moutter. "This announcement shows our determination to do this right and ensure Spark New Zealand has strong, effective leadership for the period ahead."

Under Moutter's tenure as CEO Spark has put more emphasis on data and mobile services, which are now both bigger than traditional voice services..

The shares last traded at $3.54, and have gained 7.7 percent this year.
