Sir Richard Carter, member of the timber company dynasty and former Carter Holt Harvey executive chairman, has died. He was 75.
Sir Richard was a great-grandson of one of the Carter Holt Harvey founders, Francis Carter.
Born in Palmerston North on April 24, 1935, he graduated from Auckland University in 1958 with an accountancy degree. He married June White in 1960.
Forestry and wood products business Carter Consolidated merged with sawmill company Holt in 1971. Under Sir Richard, Carter Holt Holdings merged with Alex Harvey Industries in 1985, creating one of the country's largest companies.
Sir Richard's funeral service will be held on Thursday afternoon at Waytemore Farm in Paparimu, south of Auckland.
