Five years after closing its department store in Christchurch, Arthur Barnett has reopened its doors in a new location at Hornby Dress Smart.
Arthur Barnett general manager Sue Smaill said the decision to reopen a temporary store in Christchurch was largely driven by a rise in mail order inquiries from Cantabrians.
"After the earthquake, those orders have grown exponentially and the number of Cantabrians visiting our Dunedin store to purchase goods has also risen. Opening a store in Christchurch is our effort at satisfying that local demand for our goods and services."
Smaill said the store would continue to operate as long as customer demand was there.
Arthur Barnett was originally established in 1903 and operated in Christchurch until February 2006.
