Hotchin's wife hits out at 'hate campaign'

The wife of Hanover Finance boss Mark Hotchin has hit out at a "hate campaign" against herself, Hotchin and the company.

The comment by Amanda Hotchin was made in an email to the blog of broadcaster Brian Edwards.

It follows reports in news organisations that portray the Hotchins as continuing to live a lavish lifestyle, despite the collapse of Hanover in 2008 which froze $550 million owed to 16,500 investors, many of them elderly.

"I care very much about what has happened, I do care that investors have lost money, I am concerned for their welfare," Mrs Hotchin said in the email.

"I am also concerned for the welfare of my family, which is being subjected to a tabloid media campaign motivated by hate and the greed of papers and broadcasters that simply want to make money from everyone else's misery."

The Hotchins have reportedly been living in a Gold Coast mansion, although Mrs Hotchin said they were renting a 1-1/2 floor unit in the residence, and that did not include the rooftop pool.

"The constant media and public comment about my husband, Hanover and myself has become a hate campaign.

"Over the last year I have learned, to my cost, that not everything you read, hear or see in the media is true. Indeed it is often pure fantasy." Mrs Hotchin said.

It is beyond belief that the principals of Hanover were not aware of the financial situation that they were in for a long time before the media drew the issues involved to the public's attention. Their actions have had a devastating effect on the savings and financial future of large numbers of people who did not deserve it.

Unforunately, Mrs Hotchins, you live in a democracy. This is the price you pay for your husbands lack of integrity and greed. And while you continue to expect $6500 a week for living expenses to live in a luxury beachside apartment (even though it doesn't include the rooftop pool, god forbid) you cannot expect an ounce of mercy from either the public or the media. Perhaps you might consider repatriating to Russia or some place where the rich can have the free press muzzled?

I can't feel sorry for Amanda Hotchin. If she really felt for the investors why not sell her surplus million dollar properties and make a payment to those investors. Why not pay back her husband's share of the $90 million dividend which was taken out not long before the crash. They must have known the company was on shaky ground when taking a dividend.

Amanda, Please answer this observation, did this business perform to their best ability within the rules of the game. One can not and should not place blame on management for loss of investment if this basic principal is observed.
