Colin McKinnon is now the executive director of two investment associations as he joins Angel Association New Zealand.

This is in addition to his position as executive director of the New Zealand Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (NZVCA).

Chair of the Angel Association, Andrew Hamilton, says the NZVCA and Angel Association roles are distinct, with many of the regulatory issues facing angel groups being exactly the same as those facing venture capital and private equity firms.

"Colin's new appointment ensures a collaborative relationship between the two organisations and will reduce duplication," he says.

As Angel Association executive director, McKinnon will oversee the continued growth in the angel sector, which Hamilton says is becoming an important asset class in the commercialisation of New Zealand innovations.

Hamilton says McKinnon will lead the implementation of a national vision for the sector, helping to raise the capability and knowledge of angel groups, many of which are relatively new groups.
