New Zealanders want a payrise this Christmas, with two thirds of employees saying their salary doesn’t accurately reflect performance while half expect more money in 2012.

The report by Randstad Workmonitor, a specialist recruitment and HR services company, found 66 percent of workers believed 2012 would be a better year financially for their organisation and as a result 56 percent expect to have more disposable income.

The results indicate the need for employees to engage with employers to reward them for their hard work, said Paul Robinson, director of Randstad New Zealand.

“With challenging business conditions and an air of uncertainty over the last two years, employees have been working harder, longer hours and for the same pay,” Robinson said.

“Employers who want to retain their strong performers and keep staff engaged, need to ensure their people are recognised and rewarded for the achievements and efforts, otherwise you may see them walk out the door in the coming months,” he said.

The report said 54 percent of kiwi workers would be willing to move overseas for a better paid job, compared to 47 percent of Australians and 48 percent of UK workers.

New Zealand is one of 30 countries to take part in the research.
