May 16th Morning Report

The US markets closed mixed on Thursday, with gains in Cisco System following an upbeat forecast, while UnitedHealth tumbled after a report of a criminal investigation into the insurer.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.65%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.41% and down 0.18% respectively.

Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.57%), the Dax 30 (+0.72%), CAC 40 (+0.21%) and the STOXX (+0.16%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.88%), HSI (-0.79%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.68%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.431%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.959%. Oil was up to $63.15 per barrel, down 2.22%. The gold price was at US$3240.55 per ounce, up 1.64%.
