 Chris,
        Allan
has expressed what needed to be said . The robust ( is that the best word ?)
will never be far from the surface in debate . Someone has said it before that
the nature of forum discussion, particularly when it ventures  beyond a
strict topic, and more  particularly touching
upon philosophical issues , can be a tinder box. We are not all family
members sitting at a table ,familiar with one another`s mannerisms and without
subtleties of body language, including smiles and laughter to soften the
descent of language. All we hear is the  somewhat artificial sound of keys
being depressed.
Do reconsider your decision . If not
now - then later. You have been too valued a member as both a moderating
influence and  contributor.  I cannot promise you that the robust
will disappear  overnight however .There are reputations at stake .
