I've also set similar goals and am starting by doing text book analysis of a
NZSE companies.
I think 20% is realistic and will also be looking for that.

I've being investing in shares for more years than I care to remember.
Due to such factors as greed, impatience, lack of planning and stupidity, my
returns have only been  mediocre.

However over the last couple of years I've taken a more planned longer term
approach to share investing and have set myself the goal of achieving an
average  return of 20% per annum (including dividends and allowing for
brokerage) for the next 15 years.
Obviously some years I will get nowhere near 20%, whereas in some years my
returns will be much higher.
As an example, in the 12 months to 31/3/01 my total return was only 9%.
However in the prevous 12 month period my return was 45%

I would be interested in the opinions of others, on if you think that
averaging 20% per annum over the long term is achievable.
Am I being to ambitious? Perhaps aiming to low?

I would also be interested in hearing from anyone who has achieved average
annual returns that are much higher than 20% over the long term
(10 years plus).What are your strategies and what companies have been real
winners for you over that time.
