Support for the main political parties has barely changed in the last month, according to the latest Roy Morgan New Zealand opinion poll.

The governing National Party's rating in a poll of 882 people in the first few days of this month stood at 49 percent, unchanged from the poll a month ago, while the combined support for the Labour and Green parties remains static at 41.5 percent. However, the Greens gained a percentage point on Labour, which lost one, to stand at 28.5 percent and 13 percent respectively.

"If a New Zealand election were held now the latest NZ Roy Morgan Poll shows National would be re-elected easily," the pollster said in a statement.

Support for National's governing partners was little changed with the Maori Party down 0.5 percent to 1.5 percent, and Act NZ unchanged at 0.5 percent, while United Future registered 0.5 percent, having not registered in the November poll. New Zealand First was unchanged at 6 percent.

Roy Morgan's government confidence rating was down 3 points to 128.5, with 59 percent of New Zealanders saying the country is ‘heading in the right direction’ compared to 31 percent who say New Zealand is ‘heading in the wrong direction'.
