US markets closed lower on Tuesday while a closely watched recession predictor in the bond market just flashed red, spurring concern that the US economy is on track for a downturn. The 2-year and 10-year Treasury yields inverted this week for the first time since April. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.50%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.38% and up 0.18% respectively. 

Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.25%), the Dax 30 (-0.91%), CAC 40 (-1.20%) and the STOXX (-0.78%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-1.32%), HSI (-0.00%) and the Shanghai Composite (+1.02%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.479%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.439%. Oil was up to $121.1 per barrel, down 0.97%. The gold price was at US$1808.47 per ounce, down 0.66%.
