US markets closed higher on Thursday as investors awaited further policy cues from central bank officials, including Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, as well as a raft of economic data next week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.66%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.66% and 0.85% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.73%), the Dax 30 (+0.81%), CAC 40 (+1.13%) and the STOXX (+1.21%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225 (+1.49%), HSI (-0.33%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.03%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.634%, while the 2 - year note was at 5.022%. Oil was up to $75.56 per barrel, up 0.31%. The gold price was at US$1963.10 per ounce, up 0.27%.
