Telecom has announced that Rod McGeoch will retire from the board after more than nine years.

"Rod has been a board member at a time of profound change for our company and industry, including the move to operational separation," said Wayne Boyd, the comapny's chairman.

He has “contributed invaluable trans-Tasman, legal and other perspectives to his time on the Telecom board".

McGeoch has previously led Sydney's Olympics 2000 bid and was also a member of the advisory committee for the New Zealand Rugby World Cup 2011 bid.

He is also chairman of Sky City Entertainment Group, Frontiers Group, the trans-Tasman Advisory Board of Saatchi & Saatchi and Vantage Private Equity Growth. He is also a director of Ramsay Health Care and LIPA Pharmaceuticals.

His retirement will come into effect following the company's AGM on September 30.
