Text too small?

-85.1% Auckland Airport total passenger volumes decreased by 85.1% in August 2020 versus last year. International passengers (excl. Transits) were down 97.0%, transit passengers were down 92.5% and domestic passengers were down by 71.7%.

Key Points:

• The decline in total passengers for August 2020 reflects the impact of the travel restrictions imposed by the New Zealand Government in response to COVID-19. The closure of the New Zealand border from 20 March 2020 to all but New Zealand citizens and permanent residents has had a significant impact on international services.

• Domestic passenger numbers in August 2020 were 55.1% down on July 2020 reflecting an increase in the country’s alert levels during the month. On 12 August Auckland re-entered Alert Level 3 and the rest of New Zealand re-entered Alert Level 2. These changes resulted in Air New Zealand reducing services to and from Auckland and Jetstar Airways suspending all its domestic services from 19 August 2020.

The closure of the New Zealand border from 20 March 2020 to all but New Zealand citizens and permanent residents has had a significant impact on international services.
