US markets closed higher on Wednesday after data showed US inflation slowed more than expected in July and raised hopes the Federal Reserve will become less aggressive on interest rate hikes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed flat, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 2.13% and 2.89% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.25%), the Dax 30 (+1.23%), CAC 40 (+0.52%) and the STOXX (+0.91%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.65%), HSI (-1.96%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.54%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 2.785%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.22%. Oil was up to $91.57 per barrel, up 1.18%. The gold price was at US$1808.00 per ounce, down 0.24%.
