The sharemarket fell slightly today with the NZSE50 down -0.85% to end the day at 3,228.
Top stock Telecom slipped 0.7%, Contact Energy dropped 1.2%, and Fletcher Building lost 0.3%.
Retailers were mixed. Hallenstein Glasson increased 3.1%, but Pumpkin Patch dropped 4.2% and The Warehouse Group lost 0.3%. Michael Hill closed unchanged.
Other major losers included New Image Group down 13.33%, Barramundi down 12.12%, Wellington Drive Technologies down 6.45%, Postie Plus Group down 5.71%, Air New Zealand 4.6%, PGG Wrightson 3.7%, Pike River Coal 3.2%, Sky Network Television 3.0% and Steel & Tube Holdings 2.5%.
Top gainers included Plus SMS Holdings up 16.67%, Renaissance Corporation up 12%, Rubicon up 4.30%, Scott Technology up 3.08%, Skellerup Holdings 2.4%, and ING Property Trust 2.9%.
At the close today, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 97 points, or 1.9%,
lower at 4923.5, while the broader All Ordinaries lost 92.4 points, or 1.8%,
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 372.75 points, or 3.27%, to 11,015.69.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index shed 47.99 points, or 3.82%, to a close of 1,207.09, while the Nasdaq composite lost 94.92 points, or 4.17%, to 2,178.98.
