The US markets closed sharply lower on Wednesday as Nvidia warned steep charges from new US curbs on its chip exports to China and as Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said US economic growth appears to be slowing.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.73%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 2.24% and 3.07% respectively.
Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.32%), the Dax 30 (+0.27%), CAC 40 (-0.07%) and the STOXX (-0.08%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-1.01%), HSI (-1.91%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.26%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.281%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.776%. Oil was up to $64.17 per barrel, up 2.26%. The gold price was at US$3468.60 per ounce, up 3.40%.
