The US market closed mixed on Monday, as investors braced for a slew of economic data later this week while assessing reports on Federal Reserve candidates and commentary from policymakers for clues on the interest rate outlook.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.16%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.20% and down 0.51% respectively.
Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+1.06%), the Dax 30 (+0.18%), CAC 40 (+0.70%) and the STOXX (+0.56%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-1.31%), HSI (-1.34%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.55%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.178%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.504%. Oil was up to $56.58 per barrel, up 0.67%. The gold price was at US$4340.10 per ounce, up 0.27%.
