Rugby boosts Sky viewers

Rugby is a winner for Sky Digital, with the pay television network reaching 600,000 viewers for the first time during the recent Tri-Nations tournament.

Latest ratings show 614,000 people watched the fourth Tri- Nations test and Bledisloe Cup decider between the All Blacks and Australia on August 3 on Sky Sport. The combined viewership on Sky Sport and the Rugby Channel outrated TV3's delayed footage for the first time.

During the Bledisloe Cup decider 382,900 males aged between 15 and 39 years watched the game on Sky compared with 82,200 on TV3. The first test between the All Blacks and Australia on July 13 was watched on Sky by a total audience of 490,700 and the second test against South Africa by a total audience of 524,000.
