The sharemarket fell slightly today with the NZSE50 down -0.14% to end the day at 3,144.
Top stock Telecom fell 1.5%, while Contact Energy added another 0.4% and Fletcher Building closed unchanged.
In the retail sector The Warehouse gained 0.3% and Hallenstein Glasson and Pumpkin Patch added 0.7% each, but Michael Hill plunged 3.8%.
Banks were weaker with ANZ dropping 2.9%, Steel & Tube Holdings fell 4.4%, Goodman Fielder dipped 3.4% and Rakon declined 2.3%.
Top gainers for the day included SkyCity Entertainment 3.4%, Pike River Coal 3.0%, NZX 3.7% and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare 2.6%.
At the close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index had fallen 6.2 points, or
0.12%, to 5005.6, while the broader All Ordinaries added 0.5 points, or 0.01%
to 5075.9. After strong gains yesterday, the big banks were weaker and gold
and oil stocks were higher.
On the back of stronger oil prices, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed
down 29.23 points, or 0.25%, at 1,467.34 and the Nasdaq composite fell 3.25
points, or 0.14%, to 2,279.53.
