August 24th Morning Report

US markets closed higher on Wednesday as shares of Nvidia gained ahead of quarterly results from the company whose chips are widely used for artificial intelligence (AI) computing. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.54%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 1.10% and up 1.59% respectively. 

Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.18%), the Dax 30 (+0.15%), CAC 40 (+0.08%) and the STOXX (+0.15%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.48%), HSI (+0.31%) and the Shanghai Composite (-1.34%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.196%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.971%. Oil was up to $78.56 per barrel, down 1.36%. The gold price was at US$1945.00 per ounce, up 0.99%.
