May 13th Morning Report

US markets closed higher on Friday and all three indexes posted another weekly advance as investors parsed comments from Federal Reserve officials and looked ahead to crucial inflation data next week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 2.16%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 1.85% and 1.14% respectively.

Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+3.20%), the Dax 30 (+1.02%), CAC 40 (+3.29%) and the STOXX (+0.61%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.12%), HSI (+2.64%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.007%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.50%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.872%. Oil was up to $78.20 per barrel, down 0.08%. The gold price was at US$2366.90 per ounce, down 0.64%.
