The US market closed mixed on Tuesday, impacted by declines in healthcare and energy stocks, but the Nasdaq pared some losses in the afternoon. Investors evaluated delayed economic data to gauge the Federal Reserve's monetary policy outlook for next year.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.71%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.45% and down 0.03% respectively.
Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.68%), the Dax 30 (-0.63%), CAC 40 (-0.23%) and the STOXX (-0.60%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-1.56%), HSI (-1.54%) and the Shanghai Composite (-1.11%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.147%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.479%. Oil was down to $55.22 per barrel, down 2.56%. The gold price was at US$4345.70 per ounce, up 0.24%.
