Newly listed Christchurch-based internet development company, ElecTech (ELG), has expressed its confidence in e-commerce despite recent negative sentiment against the industry.

ElecTech recently listed on the Unlisted Securities Market of the NZSE and is the parent company of Travelmedia and Simply Websites.

Travelmedia is a specialist print publisher and web developer to New Zealand's tourism industry and Simply Websites develops and services the industrial and retail sectors' web technologies.

ElecTech Managing Director, Kevin Elliott, says he is pleased with the company's progress despite persistent rumours that e-commerce has had its day.

"We have taken on more work in the last three months than for the previous nine. Contracts to date include developing web technology and services for Canterbury Manufacturers Association, Mercer Stainless and pet store leaders Animates," says Mr Elliot.

ElecTech has been in the information business for six years, starting with advanced CD-Rom marketing and moving to electronic commerce. Mr Elliot says the company is uniquely positioned to take advantage of both the growth in tourism in New Zealand and the growth in the Internet.

"The Internet is fast becoming the means of information and booking for travellers. Tourism operators have seen the landscape change and we have been there to help," he says.

The company's experience in the tourism sector has also enabled it to expand into the industrial market, where there is plenty of room for growth.

"The industrial sector that is still only starting to grasp what electronic technology can do for decreasing their experiences in the business.

"We offer software products which will help to market virtually any kind of business on the web. We also offer retail stores and database facilities. We believe electronic technology is only being used to a small fraction of its potential and look forward to continued growth for ElecTech and continued savings for our clients."

ElecTech plans to use its Unlisted Securities Market listing to assist in mergers and acquisitions in the coming year.
