The Department of Labour has lifted its prohibition notice on underground operations at Solid Energy’s Spring Creek underground coal mine.
The state-owned coal miner stopped work at the mine on Monday following three separate safety incidents. Solid Energy chief operating officer Barry Bragg said the incidents occurred due to systems breakdowns though safety controls “proved effective”.
The company said in a statement to the NZX, that the inspectorate was now satisfied with its response to the incidents. The mine will not immediately resume full underground operations as the company is still completing internal investigations.
Until the investigations and any subsequent actions are completed, operation will not recommence, it said.
