May 14th Morning Report

US markets closed barely changed on Monday as investors took a breather after three weekly gains and awaited key inflation readings and earnings reports due this week while a survey showed consumers concerned about inflation. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.21%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.02% and up 0.29% respectively.

Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.22%), the Dax 30 (-0.16%), CAC 40 (-0.12%) and the STOXX (-0.12%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.13%), HSI (+0.80%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.21%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.49%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.868%. Oil was up to $79.14 per barrel, up 1.12%. The gold price was at US$2342.10 per ounce, down 1.39%.
