US markets closed higher on Thursday as investors grappled with an onslaught of economic data and a string of mixed corporate earnings, all while eyeing the clock as it ticks down toward next week's Federal Reserve monetary policy meeting. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.41%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.80% and 1.34% respectively.
Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.21%), the Dax 30 (+0.34), CAC 40 (+0.74%) and the STOXX (+0.62%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.12%), HSI (+2.37%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.76%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.495%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.183%. Oil was up to $81.14 per barrel, up 1.24%. The gold price was at US$1931.10 per ounce, down 0.59%.
