July 4th Morning Report

US markets closed higher on Monday with slim gains in a holiday-shortened session, helped by a surge in Tesla and strength in bank shares as the second half of the year kicked off on a subdued note. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.03%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.12% and 0.21% respectively. 

Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.06%), the Dax 30 (-0.41%), CAC 40 (-0.18%) and the STOXX (-0.02%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+1.70%), HSI (+2.06%) and the Shanghai Composite (+1.31%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.858%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.94%. Oil was up to $69.79 per barrel, down 1.20%. The gold price was at US$1929.50 per ounce, up 0.01%.
