The International Economy Courier service will get merchandise to Australia in two to three days and in six days to 10 other countries.
NZ Post said up to half of businesses sending items overseas would be prepared to trade off an extra day or two in delivery times in exchange for a big saving in international courier costs.
NZ Post's parcel business within New Zealand and internationally has been stimulated by users of online auction houses such as Trade Me and eBay.
"An astonishing number of people overseas are, for example, buying innovative New Zealand products from New Zealand websites," NZ Post international general manager Clare Kernot said.
"Many people are prepared to wait a few days for parcels to turn up."
