US markets closed lower on Monday, dragged by declines in technology and other megacap shares, as investors looked toward a major week of events including central bank meetings and a slew of earnings reports. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.73%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 1.25% and 1.88% respectively.
Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.25%), the Dax 30 (-0.16), CAC 40 (-0.21%) and the STOXX (-0.46%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.19%), HSI (-2.73%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.14%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.553%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.257%. Oil was up to $77.73 per barrel, down 2.45%. The gold price was at US$1937.40 per ounce, down 0.42%.
